Stephen & Teaching

Stephen teaches high school history at El Camino Academy in Bogota, Colombia. Started in 1980 in response to a need for good education among missionary families, El Camino has since grown into an accredited school in both Colombia and the U.S. whose student body represents 17 different nationalities. The motto of the school is straight up Scripture. Deuteronomy 6.5: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

From a young age, the students at El Camino are taught the value of using one's mind for the betterment of the individual and the group. Cross examination of disciplines is key. Integration of thought across all subjects and learning the value of thinking and expressing thought is paramount to the learning taking place at El Camino.

The students at El Camino are in a societal position where they can choose to make a difference at the top level, in business, in ministry, in athletics and in the arts. El Camino highlights this responsibility and teaches awareness of a great need in the world for servant leaders and responsible workers. Through extended internships with local ministries, the students at El Camino are learning to broaden their worldview and reach out to the poor and to the rich alike. They learn, despite society's separation, that there is no value separation between the rich and the poor. We are all human and must use our gifts and abilities for the advancement of the Kingdom of Heaven.
By focussing on the suffering of our King, by carrying our cross daily, we will be an example to the students of radical service, dying to our own desires and living for the will of the Father, in communion with Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
