tYp's YOGI of the Month - February 2014 - Emily Blum

Q:  Where are you from?

A:  Palo Alto, in Northern California

Q:  Why did you start practicing yoga? How often do you practice each week?

A:  I started practicing in November of 2011, and haven't stopped since. I try to practice three times a week, but it varies.

Q:  Have you noticed any changes in your life since you started regularly practicing yoga?

A:  Yes- I am starting to trust my body a lot more. I had a lot of health issues when I was younger, and as a result didn't feel that I could trust my body- sadly. Yoga has enabled me to realize all that my body is capable of!

Q:  What do you like most about attending classes at tYp?

A:  The challenge- I have really gotten to know some of the instructors at tYp, and as a result, they know exactly what my weaknesses are and push me to go beyond what I think I am capable of.

Q:  What are your goals for your yoga practice?

A:  It depends on the class- some days, when I am feeling particularly strong, I make it my goal to do each pose 100%. Other days, when I am particularly stressed, I know that my focus should be on re-centering, so I focus on breathing.

Q:  What is your favorite yoga pose and why?

A:  Probably half moon and other balancing poses. I like that there is an element of challenge in balancing, and that at the same time I am strengthening.

Q:  What is something you'd like to reveal that people don't know about you?

A:  I was very lucky to travel quite a bit when I was growing up- my family spent summers in Italy, Spain, France, and England. As a result, I love exploring!
